Department of State Growth report into berths for the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels

The new Spirit of Tasmania vessels will deliver significant benefit to Tasmania’s visitor economy and the broader Tasmanian economy for many years to come.

TT-Line, TasPorts and the Department of State Growth have been working collaboratively to progress the important infrastructure needed to welcome the new vessels to the state.

Over recent months, the teams have focused on preparing the necessary information to allow the Tasmanian Government to make decisions around the temporary berthing of the new vessels, pending the completion of the new Spirit Quay infrastructure.

All options to get the vessels operating in Tasmania as soon as possible have been examined, including modifying the current Spirit of Tasmania home at Devonport’s Berth 1E.

The Tasmanian Government has now outlined the next steps for the new vessels, following the handing down of the Department of State Growth’s report.

Separate to the Report, the Department of State Growth is continuing to work with key stakeholders to support Tasmania’s tourism sector and monitor passenger numbers on the existing Spirit of Tasmania vessels to understand what future support may be needed.

The Department of State Growth will establish appropriate public reporting for the Spirit Quay project’s delivery timeframes and relevant actions from the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy via a website that is to be regularly updated.
